Separate safety issues from cosmetic issues
A warning light or steering problem can affect whether a vehicle should be driven. Scratches and worn trim are different from safety-related damage.
Do not drive a vehicle that may be unsafe simply to show it to a buyer.
Compare three numbers
Compare the as-is offer, the complete repair cost and a realistic after-repair sale value. Include diagnostics, towing and the risk of another problem.
If the likely increase in value is smaller than the repair cost, selling as-is may be more practical.
